Mikel, Oboabona expect greater Eagles team in 2014

19 November 2013, 17:44Israel Ojoko

Lagos - The Super Eagles duo of John Obi Mikel and Godfrey Oboabona said they expect a more formidable team in 2014 when Nigeria will be competing at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Chelsea midfielder Mikel and Rizespor defender Oboabona spoke after the friendly against Italy’s Azzurris at the Craven Cottage in London.

Mikel declared that Nigeria has the potential to upset huge teams at the World Cup, if the players played with the same spirit that enabled the team to win the African championship in South Africa in February.

“The potential is obvious but we must avoid arrogance and complacency. With that this team will go places”, he said in a statement.

Oboabona spoke in a similar vein, declaring that he learned a lot from playing against the Italians.

“I noticed that before any player moves the other person already knows where to run. They were very clever with the ball and I told some of my teammates that we must borrow that from them. If we do that with the type of technical crew we have at the moment, our team will go places”.
