Lagos - Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel has received applauds
from Coach Stephen Keshi for his commitment to the Nigeria national team.
2013 was a great year of service for the Chelsea player who
gave so much to the national team.
Mikel played every minute of action for Nigeria at the 2013
Africa Cup of Nations, he was also consistent at the FIFA Confederations Cup in
Brazil where he scored a vital goal for the Super Eagles.
He also played a key role to see Nigeria qualify for the
2014 World Cup with a 4-1 aggregate win over Ethiopia in the playoff, and
helped in a 2-2 draw against Italy in an international friendly.
Mikel won the Sport Man of the Year award at the Nigerian
Sports Award, and Keshi has hailed the player’s outstanding qualities.
“For Mikel, I am happy that gradually the world is
recognising his talents which he has been showing anytime he plays in the
national team”, Keshi said in a statement.
“I salute him and I am proud of his achievement but must
also say it’s just the beginning of greater things to come for all the players
in the national team.”
