Abuja - Some 25 referees, including 18 amateurs in Jigawa, who took part in the promotion examinations of the National Referees Association (NRA) have been promoted.
The chairman of the Jigawa State Referees Council (JRC), Malam Aliyu Baita,said on Monday in Dutse that the examination was held last August.
Baita said that four of the referees were promoted from grade II to grade I while three rose from grade III to grade II.
The chairman said that 18 armateurs also known as "referees in training" were promoted to grade III.
He noted that the referees would be deployed to officiate in local leagues matches in the state.
According to him, it is the first time such large number of referees from the state would participate and pass NRA’s promotion examination.
Baita commended the state's commissioner for information, youth, sports and culture, Alhaji Babandi Ibrahim, for his contributions towards the development of sports in the state.
