11 August 2014, 11:29

Berlin - Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer would be ready for the job if he is approached over succeeding Philipp Lahm as captain of World Cup champions Germany.

The freshly crowned German Footballer of the Year Neuer told Monday's edition of Kicker sports magazine that he would pick a midfielder if he was coach, but would not shy away from the responsibility if asked by coach Joachim Loew.

"I certainly see myself fit to be captain," said Neuer, who was captain at Schalke before moving on to Munich in 2011. "You would have to talk to the coach and some players to find the best solution."
