Abuja - Former Abia Warriors defensive midfielder Ogene Elijah made his debut for Sunshine Stars in the narrow one-nil to Enugu Rangers at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium on Sunday.
The Akure Gunners arrived at Enugu as league leaders but saw their dream of remaining on the summit of the Nigeria Professional Football League blown away.
Alex Emenike's long range shot was enough to seal victory for the Flying Antelopes.
Ogene came on to replace Olowo Emmanuel who picked up an injury just before the half hour mark but, the situation got bad for the Akure Gunners, as Ogene on his debut also picked-up a knee injury in the 36th minute to end his evening on the sideline.

“I felt so bad losing on my debut for my new club,” Ogene told News24 moments after the final whistle.
“We came to Enugu to win but it was unfortunate we lost by one goal to nothing and to make matters worse I got injured. It's painful but I have to take a lot of positives from the game.
“I'm in Sunshine Stars to contribute my quota and to help the club achieve the best out of the 2014-15 league seasons,” the soft spoken player maintained.
Sunshine Stars have 26 points from 14 games played so far and will play host to Akwa United at the Akure Township Stadium on Wednesday.
