Nigerian Premier League kicks off at last

10 March 2014, 15:34Israel Ojoko

Lagos - The Glo Nigerian Premier League 2013/14 season finally kicked off at the weekend after several months of postponement.

Five games were played, with Dolphins’ 1-1 draw against Heartland in Owerri the high point, as all other home teams won their games.

Debutants Abia Warriors did well to spank Kaduna United 2-0, while Nasarawa United suffered a 1-0 defeat in the hands of newcomers FC Taraba.

Lobi Stars left it late to manage a 1-0 victory over Crown FC, as Akwa United also got a slim 1-0 win over Gombe.

Enugu Rangers and Kano Pillars did not play as their supposed opponent, Nembe City and Giwa FC respectively, could not complete registration before deadline and as a result were disqualified from taking part in the league.

Three other clubs – Enyimba, Warri Wolves and Bayelsa United were involved in continental assignments and will now play their premier league opening games on Thursday.

All results

Lobi Stars 1-0 Crown

Akwa United 1-0 Gombe United

Heartland 1-1 Dolphins

Abia Warriors 2-0 Kaduna United

FC Taraba 1-0 Nasarawa United
