Abuja – Referees are set for a hefty pay increase in a bid to improve the standard of officiating in football.
The League Management Company (LMC) has increased the payments for referees four-fold to N100 000 (US$600.
The increment followed widespread complaints over the substandard refereeing.
The move was part of broader initiatives the league introduced to increase the level of competition.
The LMC and club owners have agreed on a new sharing formula for the clubs in respect of sponsorship cash. With the new arrangement, clubs will now earn in accordance to their ranking on the league table.
