Abuja - Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew, has leapt to the defence of Nigerian striker Shola Ameobi over the red card he received in the Magpies’ final game of the 2013/14 Barclays English Premier League season against Liverpool.
Ameobi was sent off in the 66th minute of the game at Anfield which Newcastle lost 1-2 but Pardew believes referee, Phil Dowd was wrong to have issued the Nigerian the marching orders, SuperSport reports.
Pardew reasoned that he expected the experienced referee to have dealt with the incident that led to the dismissal a lot more diplomatically given that Ameobi was sent off for dissent.
