Abuja - The FCT FA Federation Cup competition on Tuesday witnessed two 1-1 draws, leading to penalty shootouts.
The matches, played at the Old Parade Ground Sports Complex, Area 10, Garki, featured Hotshooters FC versus Optimum Performance and Abuja United versus Young Planners.
The penalty between Hotshooters FC and Optimum Performance ended 4-2 in favour of Optimum Performance while Abuja United and Young Planners FC ended theirs also 4-2 in favour of United.
The Head Coach of Optimum Performance, Sheriff Ajibola, who spoke to newsmen after the game, expressed joy at his team’s victory.
He also attributed the victory to the commitment of his players and luck.
"It was a difficult match and we needed a little bit of luck in the penalty shootout to win today.
"The most important thing is winning and moving to the next round because there are no second chances in this competition," Ajibola said.
In his reaction, Femi Adebayo, the Head Coach of Hotshooters, said that it was a good game but his team wasted a lot of scoring opportunities.
"My attackers lacked the finishing touches in front of goal and that cost us the game today.
"If they were able to convert the chances that came their way it would have been a different story," Adebayo said.
Meanwhile, in the other FCT FA Federation Cup match played on Tuesday, FC 24 eliminated Basic Maracana by 2-0.
NAN reports that 40 clubs are featuring in the month-long competition.
