Rangers overpower Nembe City 2-0

22 July 2013, 16:41

Enugu - Rangers International Football Club, Enugu, on Sunday overpowered Nembe City 2-0 in a week 22 Glo Premier League encounter played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

Hosts Rangers made changes at the second half of the match after a goalless first half.

Oduokpe Oghogho missed Rangers penalty in 52nd minute after Nembe defender handled a ball at the vital area which the centre referee spotted.

Rangers attacker, Uzochukwu, put the club in the lead in 73rd minute with a powerful shot outside the 18 yard box.

Rangers new player Christian Obiozor made his presence count at the 86th minute when he rattled the defence of Nembe City and gave a low cross which Meshack Chukwubuike tapped into the net.

The coach of Nembe City, John Oranka, praised his team’s fighting spirit at the first half of the match.

"We played well today but it is unfortunate that we lost the match; some days you lose and some you win; we are on a losing side today,” he said.

Speaking on the Rangers penalty, the coach said that the penalty shouldn’t have been as the player did not handle the ball intentionally.

"Apart from the penalty the officiating was not bad because we lost to a good team,” Oranka said
