Abuja - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, is confident the country’s senior national football side can win the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) hosted in South Africa.
The speaker said the Super Eagles’ scintillating performances so far in the competition showed the team had the capacity to go all the way in the tournament for the first time.
In a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam, the speaker commended the team for booking a semi-final berth.
“The dramatic manner in which they came back from three goals down to win 4-3 against Morocco last Saturday has proven that with determination and unity of purpose, a lot can achieved,” read the statement.
According to the speaker’s spokesperson, Stephen Keshi has once again proven his mettle as a coach.
He however urged the team to redouble their efforts and block some loopholes apparent in their matches so far.
He urged Nigerians to intensify prayers to ensure success in the remaining matches in the tournament.
Nigeria face Ghana in the semifinals scheduled for Wednesday.
Unlike Nigeria, the Black Stars were unconvincing in the quarterfinals, needing a penalty to knockout the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Another semifinal pits exciting crowd-pullers Zimbabwe and unpredictable Libya.
