Lagos - The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TEAP FC, Abuja,
Achebe Okoro has said that the club was targeting its promotion to the Nigerian
Premier League in the next season.
Okoro told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, that
it was their determination to ensure that FCT football clubs were duly
represented in the premier league.
He also said that plans were underway to build its own
stadium, set up television and radio stations for the promotion of football in
“If we can have the land for the stadium, we will build our
own TV station (TEAP FC channel); that is what we want to do and that is where
we are going by having this media partnership.
“We want to start developing our own programmes and then
airing them in the radio and television.
“So, we want to start small so that in the next one or two
years we will have our own 24-hour TV channel; it will not be a difficult thing
“This is because we have done it over a period of months
training people, knowing what to do and what not to do.
“So, when you do
30-minute programme every week may be in two, three, four media outlets,
then it will not be difficult for you to run a 24-hour or 12- hour TV or radio programme,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the technical crew led by
Donald Malomo, had what it takes to catapult the team to the summit of the
Nigeria National League (NNL) log at the end of the season.
Okoro pointed out that the club’s management had also
improved on the general welfare of the team for optimal performance.
“On the management’s side, we try to motivate the players
very well because without the players you won’t have the team. The coaches and
management can’t play football.
In this season, we have hired a cook for them because
nutrition is very important in players’ life.
“It is very important for us in TEAP FC to make sure our
players eat the right food.
“What our players eat and where they eat is very important,
because no matter how much you pay a player, he may decide to go and ``drink garri’’
“In the evening, he will go and find buns and the next day
he won’t give you the best because his energy level is too low.
All these are geared towards eliciting better performances
from the players and enhance our aspiration to be in the premier league next
season,’’ he added.
NAN reports that TEAP FC will engage Mighty Jets FC of Jos
on Feb. 22 at the Old Parade Ground, Abuja in a week two league fixture.
