Lome - An official with the Togo Football Federation says its president Gabriel Ameyi has been arrested.
Toussa Komi Gabriel says Ameyi's arrest is in connection with "a business transaction," and has nothing to do with his running of the federation.
Gabriel said he has been informed by police that a businessman from Benin made a complaint against Ameyi. He didn't give any details of any possible charges. Gabriel said Ameyi has "many other positions in his professional life. In the coming days, everybody will know the charges against him."Gabriel says Ameyi was arrested at an airport in the Togolese capital Lome on Thursday after returning from the African Cup of Nations draw in Equatorial Guinea.
