Wenger rules out sending Chuba Akpom on loan

16 July 2015, 14:26

London - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has ruled out loaning Chuba Akpom to another club in the summer transfer market.

The attacker stole the hearts of the Frenchman and the Arsenal faithful by notching up a hat-trick in the Gunners 4-0 win over Singapore XI in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday.

Wenger's post match comments suggested that the England youth international will get a chance in the first team again in the new season, just as was the case in the second half of last season before he was farmed out on loan to Nottingham Forest.

''No. I sent him out on loan last year because I thought he needed that,'' said Wenger.

''This pre-season, during the season I plan to keep him with us.

‘‘It’s down to performance and attitude. He has that grade to make between being a big talent and after an efficient talent week in, week out. That’s of course the target.''

Last season, Chuba Akpom made three cameo appearances in the EPL against Southampton, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, and clocked up 27 minutes in those games.
