West Brom may feature Ideye in EPL opener

13 August 2014, 14:44

London - West Brom manager Alan Irvine has hinted that he may consider using record signing Brown Ideye in the Premier League opener against Sunderland.

Ideye arrived at the Hawthorns on Friday and only joined his new team-mates for training on Monday following a delay with his visa application.

He sat out the Baggies' 3-1 loss to FC Porto on Saturday but scored a brace in the 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest for the Under-21's on Tuesday.

Irvine is impressed with the Nigerian striker's fitness and is hopeful to have the new signing available for Saturday's clash.

"We're going to have to put people in our squad who haven't done as much in pre-season as I'd have liked," the Albion boss admitted.

"Brown is ahead of where we feared he might be, which is great news. Hopefully he'll be able to play some part, as with some of the other boys who have missed pre-season will be.

"Brown is enthusiastic and seems like a good lad - a good type. I only met him at the beginning of the week and he came across really well."
