Adi nets 18th goal of the season as Timbers advance in MLS Cup

30 November 2015, 15:00

Washington - A goal by Fanendo Adi in the 54th minute assisted Portland Timbers advance to the final of the MLS Cup after the Oregon outfit  were held to a 2–2 draw by FC Dallas at the Toyota Stadium on Sunday in the Western Conference Championship.

The draw was not enough for the home team to overcome the visitors, with Portland Timbers beating the opponents 3-1 a week ago at Providence Park.

Adi's goal - his 18th of the season - ties for the most goals by a Timbers player in a single season, joining Peter Withe, Fadi Afash, McKinley Tennyson, and Byron Alvarez in the history books.

''It was a great game. We came in believing it was going to be a tough one. Dallas was going to give us a tough one, and they did,” Fanendo Adi was quoted as saying in his post-match comments by timbers.com.

''We’re not surprised with what they came with, because we expected them to come very strong.

''For us, it was to try and get a goal and push forward. When we got the second goal we knew it put us in the Cup.''

Portland Timbers will head to Ohio next weekend to take on Columbus Crew in the final of the MLS Cup.
