Aguero double earns City 2-1 win at Burnley

26 November 2016, 15:44

BURNLEY — Sergio Aguero scored two scrappy goals as Manchester City recovered from conceding early to beat Burnley 2-1 in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Both of Aguero's goals were scored from inside the six-yard box, his first in the 37th minute after the ball was bundled into his path unwittingly off Argentina teammate Nicolas Otamendi.

The winner came in the 60th after a melee and some clumsy defending in Burnley's penalty area, with Aguero eventually deflecting a shot into the net off his knee.

Aguero has scored 10 league goals this season, eight of them coming away from home in the form of four doubles.

City manager Pep Guardiola sprang some surprises in his lineup, dropping Kevin De Bruyne to the bench and leaving out John Stones, David Silva and Ilkay Gundogan completely. Yaya Toure, back in favor with Guardiola, started for the second straight league game.

The visitors took a while to get in their stride and conceded in the 14th when Dean Marney met Otamendi's headed clearance with a volley from 25 meters.

Aguero had been a doubt with a foot injury sustained in City's 1-1 draw at Borussia Moenchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday, but he was fit enough to start and ended up making the difference.

City started the 13th round of games in third place, tied on points with second-placed Liverpool and a point behind Chelsea. City plays Chelsea at home next weekend.
