Amuneke appointed as Flying Eagles coach

Abuja - FIFA U17 World Cup winning coach Emmanuel Amuneke has been appointed as head coach of the Nigeria U20 national team.

The new appointment confirms that Manu Garba will now leave the position, and has been given the mandate to return to the Golden Eaglets where he is expected to groom new players..

Amuneke will be assisted by Kabiru Baleria and Emeka Amadi.

“The Committee endorsed the recommendation of the Technical and Development Committee for the reconstitution of the technical crew of the U-20 National Team, Flying Eagles,” NFF said in a statement.

“Erstwhile U-17 Head Coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, now heads the U-20 crew with Kabiru Baleria and Emeka Amadi as Assistant Coach and Goalkeeper Trainer respectively.”

Amuneke won the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup, a competition that produced Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze and Kelechi Nwakali.

His first task will be to navigate the Flying Eagles towards qualifying for the Caf Under-20 Nations Cup to be hosted by Zambia.
