Asisat Oshoala organises U17 football tourney for girls

Lagos - The maiden edition of the Asisat Oshoala football tournament is set to kick off on Tuesday in Lagos.

The tournament which is sponsored by the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year in 2015 will see 24 teams in Lagos jostle for cash prize and a trophy.

The tourney will take center stage at Bishop Aggey field in Mushin from the 23rd to 27th of February.

And the Super Falcons star is excited to but the event together with the aim of taking young girls off the street.

"it’s all about giving back to the society and the community were i started football from , we need to develop the game of football from grassroot, that’s why am organising the Asisat Oshoala football tourney basically for young ladies,” says asisat oshola.

“We need to get the kids off the street, get the ladies out of the street and off prostitution, all of us won’t play football but the football tourney is a week-long event and it’s not gonna be about football alone we shall have time to talk and educate ourselves too. That is sports and education."

FC Robo Ladies, FC phoenix Queens, Royal Toms, COD Ladies, Kadesh Ladies and Tokas Queens are some of the teams that will compete in the tourney.
