Abuja - Minister of Youth and Sports
Minister, Solomon Dalung, is hopeful the President Buhari Unity Cup will
encourage peace in the Plateau State.
The minister has launched the football tournament in Jos.
"The proposed tourney is part of initiatives being put in
place to promote peace in the plateau among
the youth that were used as instigators and victims of the communal
violence that recently plagued the state," said Dalung.
He further explained that the tournament, which would
enjoy private sponsorship of corporate organisations, was structured as an
empowerment vehicle for budding talent.

"Both local and international scouts will be invited to
visit the local governments where qualifiers will be organised before the grand
finale at the state capital to decide the champion," added Dalung.
He thus enjoined football players and enthusiasts in the
state to embrace the new initiative.
"The tournament can produce future (Augustine) Okochas,
(Vincent) Enyemas and (Nwanko) Kanus capable of bringing glory to themselves,
their states and our nation."
Dalung urged the youth to shun destructive pastimes like
drug addiction, alcoholism, cultism, thuggery and violence.
Dates for the grassroots football tournament
have not been announced.
