Dream Team keeper Daniel speaks on U23 AFCON success

16 December 2015, 13:53

Lagos - The goalkeeper of Nigeria's Dream Team at the U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Emmanuel Daniel has attributed the team's success at Senegal to self-determination of the squad despite the obvious challenges faced.

Against all odds, former Super Eagles striker, Samson Siasia who led the Dream Team to Senegal not only picked an Olympics ticket but left the tournament as champions.

The pressure mounted higher when Nigeria after taking the lead in their first two group matches conceded in the second half, thereby establishing a high concern about the team's chances of going far in the tournament.

The former 3SC goalkeeper, Emmanuel Daniel told News24 that the team went through a lot of challenges but after the slim victory over Mali and a 2-2 draw with Egypt, everyone in the squad made up their mind to succeed.

"We went through a lot of challenges prior to the competition but the coaches did their best to motivate us and give some sort of confidence but individually we struggled to build such strong confidence."

"But after the first matches where we conceded those goals I think everyone in the team had to just find the right determination not to give up. We build up the courage not to lose a match, at least if we don't concede we won't lose, “Emmanuel Daniel said to News24.
