31 October 2016, 14:25

Abuja - Ahead of next month's FIFA U20 Women's World Cup in Papua New Guinea, Falconets players have done their Pre- Competition Medical Assessment (PCMA).

The technical crew led by Coach Peter Dedevbo cancelled training sessions for the day to ensure that the 29 players in camp made themselves available to the medical team for examinations and physical fitness tests.

Team Doctor, Jane Orizu explained that the exercise that includes cardiovascular, abdominal and muscular skeletal investigations is mandatory and are FIFA –specified tests to be conducted on every player before a tournament.

"The Pre- Competition Medical Assessment is a complete physical examination of the players. It is part of the routine medical examinations and tests that the players must undergo in order to be eligible for the competition. The importance of the whole exercise is to identify potentially significant medical conditions that might make playing football dangerous for the players.

"Basically, we want to ensure that we are taking along only healthy players to the World Cup, so that we don't have hitches during the competition. Everything we are doing is in line with the medical standards and procedures as specified by FIFA,” Dr. Orizu assured.

The 2016 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup kicks off on November 13 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Nigeria’s Falconets will tackle Japan, Canada and Spain in the group phase.

News24 reported that Falconets goal –poacher, Chinwendu Ihezuo, has joined her team –mates for training sessions in Abuja as preparations hot up for the 2016 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup in Papua New Guinea.
