Golden Eaglets coach Amuneke tips Senegal to win tournament

09 December 2015, 15:05

Abuja - The Senegal Under 23s squad have been tipped as favorites to win the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations by Fifa Under 17 World Cup - winning manager Emmanuel Amuneke based on their performance in the group phase.

The former Barcelona winger thinks Algeria can upset the form - guide and has urged the Nigerian team to step up the gear if they want to be crowned champions.

Of the four countries left in the tournament, three are undefeated - Senegal, Nigeria and Algeria with the hosts the only team with a hundred
percent record, having won all their three Group A fixtures, scoring six goals and conceding once.

''From what we saw in the first round, I see that Senegal is the first favourite (to win the trophy) but there are teams like Algeria which can
distort this logic,'' Amuneke said to the online edition of Le Buteur.

''The Nigerian team can also play better than it has done hitherto. ''

At the 2011 CAF U-23 Championship, Senegal beat the Dream Team 2-1 but both teams settled for a 1 -1 draw when they met at the 2015 All - Africa Games.
