How we beat Lobi Stars, Ikorodu United coach reveals

29 February 2016, 20:47Israel Ojoko

Lagos - Ikorodu United secured a 1-0 win over Lobi Stars on Sunday, and coach Edema Benson has revealed how his side were able to defeat a more experienced opponent.

An 11th minute goal by Balogun Kabiru was enough to secure all three points for the Lagos team, a first in the premier league.

“We put the ball on the ground, we handled the ball well. They (Lobi Stars) want to force us to play long ball but we did not,” Coach Edem Benson told News24.

“I changed my pattern of play. Last time (against Abia Warriors) I played 4-2-3-1, this time I played 4-2-4 because I knew we needed to score.”

Benson, who admitted that their visitors are no push-over, said the feeling is now different after recording their first victory in the premier league.

“The victory is a welcome idea. Its been long we have a premiership game here at Onikan but I must give God the glory for recording the first victory of the premier league at Onikan.”

He however said he is unfazed by report of a new head coach taking over from him.

“My former coach (Maurice Cooreman) when he left I was told to continue, so bringing a new coach is not a problem, I can work with anybody since we’re working towards one goal.”
