Iwobi reveals why he chose Arsenal ahead of West Ham

27 October 2016, 12:07Israel Ojoko

London - Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has revealed why he decided to join Arsenal ahead of West Ham United when the two offers were on the table.

Iwobi joined Arsenal’s youth team in 2004 when he was just 8.

He revealed that from the age of six, he alongside Chuba Akpom, had started training with both teams before finally joining the Gunners because it is a bigger club.

“Arsenal and West Ham were interested in me and Chuba [Akpom], so we were training with both clubs for three years, because we were scouted at six and you can’t sign until you’re nine,” he said on Football365.

“I decided to sign for Arsenal because I supported them back then and I always saw them as the bigger club – no disrespect to West Ham.”

The Super Eagles forward has made 11 appearances for the club this season, but has failed to score thus far.

News24 reported that Iwobi revealed that teammate Mesut Ozil wants him to express himself on the pitch.
