12 July 2016, 16:21Israel Ojoko

Lagos - The Nigeria Football Federation will in the coming days announce Paul Le Guen as the new coach of the Super Eagles.

News24 gathered on Tuesday that the Frenchman will be handed a two-year deal, renewable if Nigeria qualifies for the 2018 World Cup in Brazil.

According to News24 report, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) shortlisted three candidates - former Ethiopian coach Tom Sainfiet, Nigeria caretaker coach Salisu Yusuf and Frenchman Le Guen, who once handed Cameroon, for the job of the Super Eagles.

The NFF preferred Le Guen to Saintfiet, who was one time Technical Director of the federation.

Yusuf will be allowed to return as the assistant coach under Le Guen after his short spell as the caretaker coach. But there are report the former Kano Pillars handler will reject the offer as he has made public his desire to be the head coach of the Super Eagles.

His last role was as manager of the Oman national football team, from which he was relieved in November 2015.

Nigeria is grouped alongside Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia in the qualifiers.

The Super Eagles will begin their 2018 World Cup qualifiers at Zambia on October 3, 2016.
