As it happened: Victor Moses brace punishes Algeria

12 November 2016, 16:51Israel Ojoko

Uyo - Victor Moses scored twice to help Nigeria beat Algeria 3-1 in a 2018 World Cup qualifier played in Uyo on Saturday.

Moses opened scoring in the 25th minute before his Chelsea teammate John Obi Mikel doubled the lead in the 42nd minute to comfortably finish the first half.

After the break, Algeria came out strong, calling Nigeria’s defense to duty, and it paid off when Bentaleb reduced the deficit just after the hour mark.

Moses would go on to complete a brace on the night, as a pass from Ogenyi Onazi was cooly slotted pass goalkeeper M’bohil in the 90th minute to ensure Nigeria won 3-1.

Nigeria has now extended their lead on the table to six points, four ahead of Cameroon who drew 1-1 with Zambia in an earlier encounter.

Algeria sit bottom of the group with one point. Zambia also has one point but with better goal difference.
