London - Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel has put on hold talks over a new contract at Chelsea on hold until the end of the current season.

Mikel, who joined Chelsea ten years ago, still has a contract with the Blues till 2017.

The player’s career has been reinvented under interim manager Guus Hiddink, and the club has now shown keen interest in extending his contract.

However, the 28-year-old’s agent says he has put talks over a new deal on hold and will wait until the end of the season before sorting out his future.

“Chelsea have approached him for an extension,” his agent explained on Metro.

“But he said after the season he’ll decide.

“He has many teams interested – almost three clubs in China want him.”

Mikel was in action for Chelsea on Wednesday in a 2-1 loss to PSG in the second leg UEFA Champions League Round of 16 game. Chelsea crashed out 4-2 on aggregate.
