Milan confirm De Jong exit, MLS deal looms

01 February 2016, 20:49

Milan - Dutch midfielder Nigel De Jong will leave AC Milan with immediate effect after negotiating his exit from the San Siro, the Serie A club announced Monday.

De Jong has made only five appearances for the Rossoneri this season and was left out of Sinisa Mihajlovic's squad for a 3-0 derby win over city rivals Inter Milan on Sunday.

A club statement on Monday, the final day of the winter transfer window in Italy, said: "AC Milan announces that Nigel De Jong's contract with the club has been mutually terminated today.

"AC Milan would like to thank the Dutchman for his determination, commitment and professionalism shown during his time with the red and black colours.

"We wish him all the success possible and all the very best for the next stage of his career."

The 31-year-old De Jong, a tough-tackling midfielder who has played in two World Cup campaigns, joined Milan in 2012 following a three and a half year spell at Manchester City.

He has recently been linked with a move to Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy.
