Nigeria vs Algeria, a must win for Super Eagles says Owolabi

20 October 2016, 12:01

Lagos - As the Super Eagles prepare for the second group qualifier for the 2018 World Cup, an ex-international, Felix Owolabi says the team has to beat Algeria to be in a comfortable lead.

Owolabi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos that Eagles’ successful outing in Zambia was a morale booster for the team.

“Honestly I expect nothing but victory in November, we have started well, and I believe that we seem to have everything well put together.

“The players are key, as long as they play to instruction, I believe the team will secure all the point it requires.

“The good thing is that they won the away match that will give them the confidence they need to forge ahead.

“And they need to key into that, they should not lose focus,’’ Owolabi said.

Owolabi a member of the 1984 AFCON winning squad, however, urged the team to intensify efforts especially during the encounter with Cameroon.

“They are very physical, they are strong, and we both have an interesting history when it comes to football.

“I will implore the handlers of the team to prepare the players psychologically too and not just tactics,’’ the former 3SC player said.

The Super Eagles will host the Algerian team on November 12 in the teams’ quest to qualify for Russia 2018.
