NWFL: Rivers Angels qualifies for league final

31 October 2016, 10:33

Port Harcourt - Defending Champions, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt have qualified for the final of the Nigeria Women Premier league after walking over Taraba Queens.

The Media Officer of Rivers Angels, Jessica Amado, mutated this in a statement on Sunday.

Amado said that the 2015 NWPL champions were already tied on points with Delta Queens going into the game and needed an outright win to emerge as group winners.

She said that Delta Queens on the other hand needed to at least beat Adamawa Queens by seven goals.

According to her, Taraba Queens failed to show up for the last league action with the champions.

“This necessitated a walkover formality that was carried out by the match official who then awarded three goals with maximum points to the host team,” she said.

Amado said that Rivers Angels was tied on points with Delta Queens, who defeated Adamawa Queens 1-0 in Yola and emerged group winners on a goal difference.

In Group A, Nasarawa Amazons snatched a 1-0 victory over Osun Babes to finish top of the group with 36 points.

The Amazons would be contesting for the league title with Rivers Angels should the resolution of the NWPL Congress of April 22 be followed.
