Maldini, who was also a Milan player and coach, died over
the weekend at 84.
Luigi Di Biagio, who missed the decisive penalty in a
shootout when Maldini's Italy was eliminated by eventual champion France in the
quarterfinals of the 1998 World Cup, recalled how he apologized every time he
encountered his former coach.
