Roy Hodgson hails Alli's performance against France

18 November 2015, 15:09

London - England manager Roy Hodgson has lavished praise on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli, following his goal against France in a friendly on Tuesday night, calling the Anglo-Nigerian ‘a special talent.’

The 19-year-old announced himself as a Three Lions player with a stunning strike from distance that beat The Blues goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and put the home team 1-0 up in the 39th minute.

''It was as close as you can get to faultless performance. I didn’t at any moment of the game think he was anything other than top class,'' said Roy Hodgson.

''It is amazing at that age - with no previous experience unless you count those 10-minute substitute appearances - for him to go in and do what he did tonight was outstanding.

''He’ll get a lot of praise for that performance - he certainly deserves a lot of praise.''

Tuesday night's game against the 2016 European Championship hosts was Alli's fourth appearance for England since making his debut against Estonia in September.

The teenager racked up 17 caps in total for England's youth teams - U17, U18, U19 and U21 - prior to his senior debut.
