Super Eagles return to Nigeria without 2017 AFCON ticket

30 March 2016, 11:28Israel Ojoko

Lagos - The chartered flight of the Super Eagles touched down in Abuja on Wednesday morning without the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations ticket.

The players and coaching crew were only seen putting on sad faces to express their disappointments.

On arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe international Airport, the foreign based players immediately connected flights returning to their clubs ahead of weekend fixtures.

It will be a second consecutive time Nigeria will not be competing at the AFCON, a competition the West Africans won in 2013.

A 65th minute goal from Ramadan Sobhy did the magic for Egypt after a 1-1 draw in the first leg played in Kaduna.

With this victory, Egypt is having a comfortable lead in Group G with 7 points, while the Nigerian team is in distance second position with 2 points.

Though Nigeria still has a game against Tanzania, the outcome will have no effect on Nigeria’s chances to qualify for the Nations Cup.
