Super Falcons threaten to boycott AWCON

26 October 2016, 17:26

Lagos - The Super Falcons have threatened to boycott the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations billed for Cameroon in November over unpaid bonuses, SuperSport reports.

The Nigerian side are already in camp preparing for the tournament.

But the Florence Omagbemi-led team may shun the tournament afterall due to unpaid bonuses and allowances.

“The players are not happy that till date what the NFF has paid as qualifying bonuses is nothing but the paltry Ten Thousand Naira (N10, 000) each to the players to enable them travel back to their respective homes after the last April successful qualifying match against the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal in Abuja.

“The NFF had cited financial challenges promising to pay their bonuses and allowances soon but that’s yet to see the light of the day till date.

“They want all the outstanding allowances paid forthwith or they will stay away from the upcoming Africa Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon.” A source informed SuperSport.com

News24 had reported that Omagbemi has assured Nigerians that the Falcons will do everything humanly possible to retain the continental title of next month's 10th Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Cameroon.

The Super Falcons are the record holders in Africa, winning the title seven times out of the previous nine editions.
