Traore regrets missed chances against Anzhi

01 August 2016, 15:38

Moscow - Reigning champions CSKA Moscow's Ivorian striker Lacina Traore said Monday he was disappointed at failing to score in the Russian Premier League campaign-opening match at Anzhi Makhachkala at the weekend.

"I'm sad and disappointed," the lanky forward, who joined CSKA on loan from Monaco last month, told CSKA TV channel.

"The match at Makhachkala was a special event for me as I really wanted to score in my first league match for CSKA against my former club."

The 25-year-old striker, nicknamed the "Gentle Giant" because of his two-metre frame, had two clear chances in Saturday's match but failed to find the net as one of his efforts was parried by Anzhi 'keeper Alexander Belenov, while the second shot hit the woodwork.

"No success can be achieved in football without luck," Traore added.

"Unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to score at Makhachkala."

Traore has won 10 caps and scored four goals for Ivory Coast. He played in the Russian league with Kuban Krasnodar in 2011-12 and Anzhi Makhachkala in 2012-13 scoring 31 goals in 67 matches for both clubs.
