Usman Mohammed joins Salami in quitting Eagles

31 December 2015, 13:40

Abuja - The Super Eagles team will be further depleted ahead of the CHAN tournament in Rwanda with midfielder Usman Mohammed set to join Gbolahan Salami in quitting the team for greener pastures abroad.
Salami had failed to return to the Super Eagles camp after the Christmas break with reports suggesting he is set to secure a move to Europe in the January transfer window, which will effectively rule him out of the CHAN tournament.

Similarly, Usman, who plays for the relegated FC Taraba, is the latest player se to quit the team as he is also set to secure a move to an unnamed foreign club.

Both players have so far proved to be key members of the home based Super Eagles squad, with Salami becoming the team’s captain under Sunday Oliseh but are now almost a hundred percent sure to miss the CHAN tournament.

Usman was a member of the triumphant Nigeria Under-23 squad that won the Africa Under-23 Cup of Nations in Senegal in early December, and only re-joined the Super Eagles squad a week ago.

Meanwhile, team officials have refused to confirm or deny if they will be calling up replacements for the players before they leave for a training camp in South Africa on January 2.
