West Brom manager showers praise on Anichebe

30 December 2015, 08:32

London - Victor Anichebe was singled out for special praise by West Brom manager Tony Pulis, following his display against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Monday.

The Nigeria international was a handful for the Newcastle defenders before he was subbed out due to injury and would have scored his seventh goal in West Brom's colours in the league but was denied by the woodwork in the 75th minute.

The future of the Baggies number ten has been the subject of speculation since the start of this season and the game at The Hawthorns was his first start in the Premier League this term.

''Vic is a top player. He showed that. They just couldn't handle him and he did very well,'' Tony Pulis said.

''Fingers crossed he and Jonas will be ok for the Stoke game - it's been suggested that it might just be cramp.

''Hopefully it won't be any more.''

Anichebe had to be replaced in the 88th minute against Newcastle United after suffering a mild hamstring injury but he is hoping to be fit to face Stoke City on Saturday, January 2.
