Abuja - The Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation (NBSF) on Thursday released the list of players who will represent the country at the forthcoming Baseball U-12 World Cup in Taipei, Taiwan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the competition is scheduled to hold in July.
A statement issued by the federation’s Head of Media, Ikenna Agu, said the list was drawn up after a 14-day intensive training programme at the Rosebud College, Ibadan, Oyo State.
``While releasing the names of the players, the national team coach, Gerrard Hall, said the players had been tested, and are trusted following the training programme,’’ it said.
According to the statement, the list has six players from the Sliders of Ilorin, two from DoubleT of Ilorin; three from Divine Warriors of Ibadan; three from G-Sent of Lagos and one from Liberty Sunshine of Akure.
``The players are Abdulkareem Ridwon, Sulaimon Funbi, Shabback Oyeyemi, Abdulganiyu Jamiu, Amusa Ismail and Afolabi Yinka, all from Sliders of Ilorin.
``Others are Lawal Zulu and Ayodele Shogo, both of DoubleT of Ilorin, and Okunloye Korede, Folorunsho Tosin and Oyetunde Israel of Divine Warriors.
``The rest are Uchena Chukwukere, Azeez Lukman and Onuzuruike Clinton from G-sent
of Lagos, and Adedoyin Adebayo from Liberty Sunshine of Akure,’’ it said.
The statement said that the players would be accompanied by seven officials.
They are Kehinde Laniyan, the Secretary-General of the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation (NBSF), Joseph Ogunseye Head Coach; Sani Musa and Influence Gwede, both Assistant Coachs.
Others are Paul Ziri, the Chief Umpire; Ndedjito Mawuena, the Assistant Umpire, and Ikenna Agu, the Head of Media.
