Lagos - The president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria
(AFN) Solomon Ogba has urged home-based athletes to up their game at coming
events if they harbor hopes of representing Nigeria at the upcoming IAAF World
Championships in August.
Ogba made the statement during a speech in Lagos, ahead of
the Kaduna Golden League meet this weekend.

“The Beijing World Championships will not be a jamboree… we
are going with a very lean team and any athlete who does not have a chance of
making the finals will not be in our team,” the Guardian reports him to have
“I was impressed with the performances of some of our
athletes in the Anambra Golden League and I hope they will up their game in
Kaduna and run better.’’
Ogba added that only the necessary coaches will be included
in the team for the World Championships, in contrast to previous years where a
large coaching contingent accompanied the team.
The Kaduna Golden League meet takes place at the Ahmadu
Bello Stadium on Saturday.For
