Abuja - Delta State Government is celebrating the exploits of Blessing Okagbare who won gold in the final of the women’s 100m heat at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The state government congratulating Okagbare for making history in front of over 80 000 people.
“Delta State celebrates with our own Blessing Okagbare on winning the gold in the final of the women’s 100m heat at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow," read a statement.
"Congratulations Blessing for making history in front of over 80,000 people by setting a new Commonwealth Games record, breaking the existing record which had been unbeaten for the past 12 years. We, the people of your state and indeed the entire country, salute your worthy achievement,” the statement added.
Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, in a separate statement said it was a "great feeling" being at the stadium in Glasgow and watching Okagbare win.
“It was a great feeling being at the stadium in Glasgow and watching Blessing winning the 100m in grand style. This is another confirmation that our uniqueness and talent will be celebrated throughout history, because we are a people that have been touched by the finger of God. We are Deltan and extremely proud of it,” he said.
