Accra - The failure of Nigeria to participate in the volleyball event at the just-concluded 2nd ECOWAS Games is detrimental to youth development, says Tony Oghuma, a top national volleyball coach.
Oghuma said in Accra on Monday that he was sad that the opportunity for Nigeria to expose the youths to their counterparts from other climes was not used.
``It is not nice to kill the dreams of these young boys and girls and one only hopes that Nigeria should be conscious of developing her youth because this is an avenue to encouraging them to look forward to a meaningful future, especially when they interact with youth of other nations.’’
Oghuma, who functioned as a technical official at the Games, said it was sad that a great country such as Nigeria could not participate in team events at the competition.
Nigeria presented teams in only three of the five sports on offer. These are -- athletics, boxing and wrestling.
