Ekiti - All the Ekiti athletes who won medals at the 17th National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt have been rewarded with cash awards totaling N2.8 million by the Ekiti State Government.
The cash reward was presented to the medalists at a reception organised for the contingent to the festival, tagged ``Garden City Games'', at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday.
Gov. Kayode Fayemi congratulated the athletes and their officials for representing the state well during the sports fiesta.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Folorunso Olabode, the governor urged the athletes not to relent in their efforts in future endeavour.
He said that instead they should start preparing for greater feats in the next edition of the festival coming up in Lagos later in the year.
The athletes, who won gold medals received N250,000 each, while silver medalists got N150,000 each and bronze medalists N100,000 each.
Meanwhile, the Ikere-Ekiti-born boxer, Adewale Masebinu, has won a silver medal at the just concluded 2nd ECOWAS Games that took place in Ghana in June.
Masebinu, who fought in the 75kg category had earlier won silver medal at the 17th National Sports Festival.
