Eko2012: Delta female hockey team wins gold

08 December 2012, 08:41

Lagos - Team Delta Hockey Coach, Sunday Ogodogun, whose team won the gold medal in the hockey event of the ongoing Games said on Friday that massive support and good preparation helped his team to achieve success.

He told newsmen shortly after retaining the event's gold medal that it was a well-deserved gold medal for the team.

"We prepared so hard for the competition and also received enough support from the government," Ogodogun said.

The team on Friday defeated their Rivers counterparts 2-1 in the finals.

They scored their two goals in the first half of the game, but Rivers managed to pull one back in the dying minutes of the competition.

However, Roseline Ovoh, captain of Team Delta, expressed joy and excitement at the victory.

"I am so happy for our back-to-back victory. I am highly honoured to be part of the team.’’

Arthur Jumbo, coach of team Rivers said that in spite of the loss of the gold medal, he was satisfied with his team’s performance.

"I am so proud of my girls; they tried their best. We all know that in sports, there must be a winner and a loser.

"Winning silver is also a thing to be happy about," he added.

Meanwhile, Lagos defeated Kaduna 1-0 to settle for the bronze medal.
