Lagos - The Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) is considering the participation of female players in next month’s Godswill Akpabio International Scrabble Classic.
The seventh edition of the event is scheduled for Akwa Ibom State, South Nigeria September 25 to 29.
NSF President Chief Toke Aka, said all necessary preparations have been put in place to ensure a successful tournament.
“NSF is still considering the inclusion of a Females category. However, I can confirm that four male categories will be played, namely Opens, Veterans, Intermediate and Masters. Our national ratings will be used in deciding which category players can play,” he said.
All foreign players, he said, will play in the Masters category.
Current world champion, Nigel Richards is among the 20 foreign players expected to participate in this year’s edition.
Other top players expected at the event scheduled for September 25 to 29 are Jason Katz-Brown, Austin Shin, Komol Panyasonpholat and Pakorn Nemitramansku, winner of the last edition.
