Kano fans praise Pillars' victory

12 September 2013, 15:00

Kano - Basketball enthusiasts in Kano praised Kano Pillars after they were crowned champions of the 2012-2013 DStv/Basketball Premier League.

Some fans hailed the team for its "thrilling performances'' during the season.

The secretary of the Kano Basketball Association, Bashir Bello, said that the club's dedicated approach to the game earned it the victory.

''I am pleased with their performance because the boys went out there to prove a point,'' Bello said.

A business man, Emeka Benson, also commended the team for a job well done and enjoined the Kano State Government, owners of the club, to further provide incentives to boost the morale of players.

A civil servant, Baba Ali, said that the players exhibited excellence in all their games during the season.

"Pillars got the result because of their hunger for success, that is why they were able to beat a team like Union Bank of Lagos in the final four play-off,'' Ali said.

Kano Pillars topped the Savannah Conference by winning all its 28 matches and went ahead to emerge tops at the national play-off involving Union Bank, Dodan Warriors and Markmentors.

Union Bank and Kano Pillars would represent Nigeria at the continental basketball clubs' competition in Monrovia in October.
