Asaba - The trials for the upcoming 15th African Senior
Karate Championships have been concluded by the Karate Federation of Nigeria.
The event, scheduled to take place in Dakar in August, will
feature 29 athletes from Nigeria.
“There are 60 karatekas in camp and we will select 29 out of
them for the championship in August,” revealed Emmanuel Metu, the vice
president of the federation.
“The 60 we have selected have formed the national team and
we will be selecting from them from time to time whenever we have competitions
to take part in. There is no automatic ticket to anybody, either home-based or
foreign-based but the experience he brought to the camp is appreciated.”
The upcoming National Sports Festival will be another event
where athletes can showcase their talents.
“The NSF will avail us the opportunity to have
more karatekas in the standby team ahead of future competitions and events,”
