Lagos- The Lagos State Cycling Association on Friday said it had intensified preparation to do the state proud at the forthcoming Niger Delta Cycling Championships in Rivers.
The association's Assistant Coach, Ayilo Buraimoh, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the association intended to achieve success with its new equipment.
``Although there have not been activities since the 18th National Sports Festival, tagged ``Eko 2012’’, in Lagos, the association has started training its cyclists for the Niger Delta Cycling Championships.
``We are preparing seriously for the tournament; our cyclists are right back on their training after the festival break and we know we will soar,’’ he said.
According to him, modern bicycles provided by the state government for the 18th NSF, hosted by the state, would aid the cyclists’ performance at the tournament.
``We have modern bicycles to train with and to compete with at the championships and we will certainly do the state proud,’’ he said.
Buraimoh called on private and public organisations to support cycling by sponsoring competitions to lift the sport in the country.
NAN reports that the championships, earlier scheduled for April, were postponed to a-yet-to-be-fixed date.
