NOC announces new committee

22 June 2015, 14:33

Lagos - The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has kicked off the final stages of its preparation for the looming 2015 All Africa Games and the 2016 Olympic Games by forming 13 sub-committees to handle all required facets of competing at those tournaments.

Habu Gumel, president of NOC, unveiled the committees this week at an event held in Lagos.

“These subsidiary governing bodies are not only advisory but equally essential in the promotion of Olympic values and the effective implementation of Olympic Movement objectives,” the Guardian reports Gumel to have said.

“This NOC administration has adopted a broad base approach in the appointment of ad hoc committees and commissions, in line with our vision of expanding the scope of our operations to cover vital departments of Olympism.”

Gumel will take the role of chairman on the Liaison Committee. The All Africa Games take place in Brazzaville, Congo in September 2015, while the Olympic take place in Rio de Janeiro in August 2016.
