Lagos - Nigeria fared well at a recent invitational youth
tournament in Sweden, bringing home two gold medals.
The event took place in Sweden and featured 58 teams. Niger
and Sokoto states won the under-16 and under-13 events.
“As a part of our plans of developing the sport at the youth
level, we went to the competition with four male teams; U-13, 16 and 21 and one
U-21 female team,” revealed Yusuf Dauda, the president of the Handball
Federation of Nigeria.
“The female lost out in the semi-finals while two of our
male teams won the gold medal in their category. We used the tournament to
expose them for the future competitions which we have.”
Meanwhile, Nigeria held on to their 50th
position in the latest International Handball Federation rankings.
